
FRIVA (Framework Programme for Risk and Vulnerability Analysis) is a
multidiciplinary research programme at LUCRAM (Lund University Centre
for Risk Analysis and Management) financed by the Swedish Emergency
Management Agency. The programme was launched in March 2004 and part one
was completed in March 2007. Part two of the program is currently
running and will continue until the end of February 2010.
The
work in FRIVA is concerned with events that can lead to severe societal
perturbations by affecting critical societal functions. FRIVA is
comprising different subprojects that are linked to six different
departments at Lund University. The department of Fire Safety
Engineering is the main contractor. The nature of the work is competence
development, understanding the phenomenon of risk and vulnerability in
modern society, creating the basis for applications of risk and
vulnerability analysis at local, regional and national level, and to set
up a comprehensive PhD. Programme to increase the scientific competence
in the field. The programme includes eight PhD projects and is linked to
several master degree theses and additional parallel PhD project, in
order to approach risk and vulnerability from a number of different
scientific angles.
The programme is comprised of three Themes each incorporating underlying fields of work briefly presented here.
